WVA Mogul Program: Forging Champions on Snow and in Life
At Waterville Valley Academy, our Mogul Program is built for athletes with bold ambition and elite aspirations. Designed for driven skiers aiming to compete at the highest levels nationally and internationally, the program combines world-class coaching, unparalleled training venues, and academic excellence to create the ultimate development environment.
WVA Mogul athletes train to compete in the Eastern Championship Series (A’s) and pursue qualification for top-tier events including Junior Nationals, U.S. Championships, FIS Nor-Am Tour, and Junior World Championships. The program emphasizes technical mastery, athletic conditioning, aerial progression, and mental resilience—skills that prepare our skiers not only for the podium but for success in every facet of life.
Home of Freestyle Skiing – A Legacy Like No Other
Waterville Valley is recognized as the birthplace of freestyle skiing in the United States, and that legacy lives on at WVA. Our program proudly builds on decades of excellence, hosting prestigious events like the 2018 and 2019 U.S. National Mogul Championships and developing some of the country’s most iconic skiers.
Elite Training Venues: Built by Coaches, Designed for Champions
- Winter Training: Athletes train daily at Waterville Valley Resort, with dedicated mogul courses on True Grit and Lower Bobby’s Run—expertly built and maintained by WVA coaching staff for high-volume, progressive training.
- Summer On-Snow Camps: Athletes extend their development year-round through on-snow training camps at Mt. Hood and Austria, maintaining peak readiness and technical growth.
- Acrobatic Progression: In warmer months, athletes train at WVA’s Thomas Barbeau Training Center, utilizing Olympic-quality trampolines, foam pits, and strength facilities. They also perfect aerial skills on Phil’s Hill BagJump, one of the only on-campus airbag training sites in the East.
A Proven Pipeline to the Podium
WVA Moguls has produced dozens of U.S. Ski Team and National Team athletes, including Olympic gold medalist Hannah Kearney, Hunter Henderson, Grace Henderson, and many more. These champions started their journeys on our courses and in our classrooms, emerging as world-class athletes and leaders.
Balance of Academics and Athletics
Our athletes thrive not only on snow but also in the classroom. WVA’s rigorous, college-preparatory academics and individualized scheduling ensure that mogul skiers stay on track academically while pursuing their competitive goals. With flexible support and on-campus dorms, student-athletes can focus fully on both growth and performance.
