Waterville Valley Black & Blue Trail Smashers and Waterville Valley Academy are pleased to announce the hiring of Tom Sell as their next Executive Director & Head of School. Tom will head up both the academy and club sides of the organization. Tom brings extensive knowledge and experience of snowsports to the role combined with strong academic and administrative experience.
Tom has been the Head Men’s FIS coach at WVBBTS for the last three seasons. Sell’s experience includes over 30 years of coaching, including as the Alpine Program Director at Killington Mountain School where he oversaw all aspects of the athletic program and worked collaboratively with the academic and administrative staffs. Before taking the position at KMS, Sell was a coach for the US Ski Team from 2005 to 2009. His coaching roles with the US Ski Team included the Head Men’s Europa Cup Tech Coach, as well as coaching on World Cup and Olympic teams. Sell is also the chair of the US Ski & Snowboard Eastern region development committee and a member of the National U16 and Older Working Group which both aim to create a system that will help US athletes be competitive at the national and international levels.
After an exhaustive search for the next Executive Director & Head of School, Sell distinguished himself amongst the other candidates as an exceptional leader with both athletic and schools experience poised to help the organization continue to provide world-class competitive snowsports for both club and academy athletes. WVBBTS Board of Trustee Chairman, Terry Driscoll, commented on the hiring by saying “We are thrilled to announce Tom Sell as our new Executive Director and Head of Schools. Tom’s prior experience, worldwide connections, and passion for sport make him uniquely qualified for this role. We look forward to Tom’s leadership and vision as we build on our reputation as a premier competitive snowsports organization”.
Sell will step into the new role as of June 12th after he has wrapped up the FIS Competition season.
