Academics Structure
WVA is a five month academic and snowsports academy for full time
student athletes in grades 6-12 who are pursuing the
highest level of performance in alpine racing,
freestyle skiing and snowboarding in parallel with
their academics. WVA has approximately 85 students.
WVA operates from November through March and offers
several
enrollment length options.
Students who come to WVA are in training to become
elite snowsports athletes. Since snowsports at
their most competitive level are not part of
traditional home school athletic programs, require a
rigorous daily training schedule and can involve
weekday competitions, WVA provides a unique academic
environment and customized scheduling that supports
these student athletes in achieving both their
academic and athletic goals. To that end, WVA
students are taught by WVA faculty via a 1:1 or 1:2
faculty/student ratio individualized study program
which follows their home school curriculum and
enables them to seamlessly integrate back into their
home school curriculum. WVA provides five days of
academic instruction each week in parallel with six
days of on-snow training and five days of dryland
conditioning.
