Waterville Valley Black & Blue Trail Smashers Ski Educational Foundation

Snowboard Overview and Philosophy

WVBBTS riders train at one of the best terrain parks in the country at Waterville Valley Ski Area, offering athletes a variety of progression levels in a safe and secure environment.  The WVBBTS snowboard program offers training in all snowboard disciplines-half-pipe, slopestyle, racing and boardercross.   These disciplines are further broken down into age groups at training sessions.  Riders have the option of training any of these disciplines in the morning and then switching to another discipline in the afternoon.

The WVBBTS snowboard coaching staff analyzes each rider’s ability, making it easy to customize each rider’s training program to enable them to perform to their maximum potential.    All tricks and race techniques are broken down into pieces to make it easy for our young riders to move forward with their riding swiftly and safely.  This includes our own 2 jump progression session-a jump set up for WVBBTS athletes only with 2 different distances) 10 feet and 12 feet.  There are also progression boxes that are simple and safe to work on some of the simplest tricks to the most advanced tricks.  This allows our athletes to progress from little jumps to big jumps through repetition.   We also have a trampoline on snow to work on flips and rotations right in the park.

The WVBBTS Snowboard Program also offers innovative off snow progression techniques, including trampoline training to work on flips and rotations and dryland workouts, all focused on helping riders to develop strong basic skills.  WVBBTS also utilizes video analysis as another means for riders to perfect their technique.

Riders have the opportunity to compete at the local, regional, national, US Grand Prix, World Cup, and US Open levels as more fully described below under Snowboard and Competition Programs.

USASA membership is required for riders competing in events that are associated with White Mountain Snowboard Series.  USSA membership is required for upper level riders who qualify and compete at Junior Olympics and other Nationals events.   Click here for registration details.
