WVBBTS Alpine Dryland Training Camp

The WVBBTS Alpine Program will
conduct a five day summer “Dryland Fitness Camp” in
Waterville Valley, NH in the summer for both WVBBTS
members and non-members. This camp is run by
Tom Barbeau,
the Executive Director of Athletics, Alpine Program
Director and Head JIII Alpine Coach at WVBBTS.

The camp will run Monday
through Friday with one session for JI/JII athletes
and the other session for JIII/JIV/JV athletes. The
camp provides an opportunity for young athletes to
test themselves with a wide variety of fitness
elements (including rollerblading, a slalom course,
water strengthening exercises, hiking, mountain
biking, running and strengthening workouts).
Each camp will include 13
sessions over the 5 days. See the JI/JII schedule
and the JII/JIV/JV schedule below. For the session
devoted to JI’s and JII’s the intensity level will
be stepped up, but the focus will remain the same.
Athletes will be exposed to workouts covering all
the physical qualities needed in alpine ski racing.
Athletes do not need to worry about their current
fitness level. Each session allows for a wide range
of fitness, so intensity of the workout depends upon
what the athlete can give at that specific time. We
do, however, ask that if an athlete is injured or if
the athlete has a ‘selective’ injury, one that lets
them only do what they want to do, that the athlete
does not attend.
We will be utilizing
White Mountain Athletic
Club and the National Forest for
workouts. Please bring plenty of exercise clothes, a
couple of pairs of sneakers, bathing suits (you will
be in the water 2 times per day), sun screen,
sunglasses, warm clothes, rain gear, roller blades,
a mountain bike, toughness and determination with
you. If you wish to commit to this week you are
going to do it right, and eating right is a big
part.
Alpine Dryland Training
Camp Costs: The camp includes a day only
option and an overnight option. The overnight camp
for summer 2010 is $600. It includes accommodations
at the Waterville Valley Academy and three meals per
day. The day only camp for summer 2010 (and does not include meals)
is $325.
Check-in for the overnight camp
is 4PM to 5PM on the Sunday preceding the start of
the camp. Checkout is Friday from 11:30AM to
12:30PM.
