- Many thanks to our coaches, faculty
and staff for stepping up to continue to provide great
programming for our athletes despite challenging snow
conditions. I also want to thank the mountain for
continuing to provide our athletes with training venues and
thank the parents for their ongoing support.
- In spite of difficult snow conditions,
our athletes continue to perform well in competitions in
difficult terrain.
- We look forward to a great rest of the
season!

- Enrollment is full with 71 students
presently attending classes. Inquiries for next year from
potential new students have already started to come in and
we have begun the process of setting up interviews for new
applicants.
- Parent Teacher Night is this Friday
from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the academic buildings on the
Snows Mountain Campus. This get-together is set up to give
parents a chance to meet their child’s WVA teachers as well
as other parents in the program.
- We will be celebrating Martin Luther
King Jr. Day on Monday. There will be no classes but
students are to attend any scheduled training.
- Grades close on Friday the 19th
of January and report cards will be mailed out the middle of
the next week. The students that began their WVA program in
January will not receive a report card at this time but will
be receiving a progress report in each class.
- It is great to be back to classes
after the Holiday break and a pleasure to have the
additional new students who have just begun their program.
We will miss those who finished their programs in December
and wish them well.

- Last Saturday night I watched a
Ladies’ World Cup Race from Slovenia and listened to the
announcers talk about the water injected course and how
difficult it was for the racers. So maybe it would be very
nice to be skiing in the big Colorado mountains with the
deep soft snow, but it would only make us soft. Because on
Sunday I watched our J3/4/5’s on our own mini High Country
glacier train on solid ice water injected courses and
thought how this will make these athletes tough and
excellent skiers. The last course of the day for the J3’s
and 5’s was tightly set with 4 straight gates into 1 turn
and 4 more straight gates. The racers were having troubles
in the 1 turny gate and I was wondering why they weren’t up
to par. I understood when I saw the trouble spot up close.
There was a roll before the gate with blue ice on the back
side, then 3 ruts, an early turn rut, a well placed rut and
a late rut, then as they exited the gate there were some
ripples and old cross ruts from the morning’s courses. Boy,
was I impressed with our toughness and our great skiing. I
don’t think we want this type of snow year every season, but
we are making the best if it and it will pay off.

- Congratulations to Kali St.
Laurent for coming in 1st place in the Krantz
Open GS at Pat’s Peak.
- NOTE: Please discuss this with your
children. The Mountain management has asked us to make sure
we slow down through all the SLOW SKIING ZONES on the
mountain. Also, at the J-bar they have asked that we don’t
cut lines, nor do we get on the lift anywhere but at the
bottom loading area, nor do we ski in any of the Ski
School’s brush courses. The coaches have mentioned these
points to all the athletes, but please reinforce them with
your children. We don’t want our racers to lose their passes
and we don’t want to lose our training space on the
mountain. Thanks.

- The talk of the Northeast continues to
be the unusually warm weather that has persistently
blanketed the White Mountains. The odd weather has been the
cause of many cancelled competitions, difficult training
conditions, and the dampening of spirits among winter sports
enthusiasts. However, despite the conditions, the WVBBTS
Snowboard team continues to thrive, and push forward. The
Mountain, and our coaching staff have put forth extra
efforts to provide challenging training facilities for our
riders, and have done whatever they can to make the most of
the prevailing conditions.
- The efforts put forth by our coaching
staff paid off as our athletes performed very well in
Saturday’s Slope Style competition at Loon Mountain. Our
male and female riders placed very well in their age groups,
taking home most of the top 5 spots in each division. Exact
results can be found here on the USASA website:
http://www.usasa.org/series/newhampshire/files/R17_SS142_18.html
. Congrats to those who won their division, we tip our hats
to you, and we’d like to congratulate everyone else who
competed for their efforts, and great sportsmanship while at
the competition. We are very proud of all our athletes, and
look forward to next week’s Slope Style at Cranmore.
- And so I conclude with a big thanks to
all the BBTS parents for being very patient, and supportive
of our staff, and our teams during these warm weather times.
Your optimism, and good nature have truly helped us along.
Happy New Year
to all, and to all a very snowy January-February-March.
With Best
Regards,
Sam Harding

Annual Giving Campaign. If you have not yet had an
opportunity to make your Annual Giving Campaign contribution
for this season please consider doing so in the next week or
two in an effort to reduce the amount of phone calls our
parent volunteers need to make at the next telethon.
- Please click here for details of
how Annual Giving Campaign proceeds are being used this
season to benefit our athletes
http://www.wvbbts.org/proceeds_2006.html . If you
did not receive an Annual Giving Campaign card in the

http://www.wvbbts.org/donate_card.pdf.
- If you are interested in
volunteering to make solicitation calls at the next
telethon please contact me at 603-236-4612 or via e-mail
