- We are off to a great start this season. We
are having a successful camp at Copper Mountain in which our academy
students, teachers and coaches are training and attending daily
academic sessions. This trip is giving the November session of our
5-month academy term a real purpose and meaning. We have received
over two feet of snow out here and hopefully we will bring back some
of this wintry weather when we return next week.
- When we return to Waterville Valley we will be
coming back to an Academy and Club that will be open and ready to
serve our members. I hope that our athletes and families see some
of the improvements in the program this year as we have worked hard
in the off-season to ensure a top quality program and experience.
We again in my humble opinion have some of the best coaches and
teachers in the marketplace and with hard work and dedication from
our athletes and parents we are bound to have a successful year.
- The mountain is ready to accommodate our many
needs and has already prepared several training arenas to make them
safer and available to us and the public earlier in the year. If you
see any of the mountain staff or management please thank them and
let them know we appreciate all they do for us. I hope to see you
all at the second annual BBTS Ski and Snowboard Ball. It will be a
fun and exciting event to kick off the year.
All the best,
Pete

- Waterville Valley Academy in Colorado! Our
second year at Copper Mountain is turning out to be another
fantastic experience with on snow training in the morning, academics
during the afternoons, analysis of the training with the coaches in
the evening. Adding meals and Tom’s workouts makes for a very full
and productive day. This school year is off to a great start and
with any luck the weather will begin to cooperate back home so we
can continue with the momentum started here.
- Back on campus things are happening also.
Kim, Anne and Paula have been manning the office maintaining
communications and preparing for our return as well as the arrival
of the December Student starts. Pickering Hall (our academic
building) is being upgraded with the installation of two new
furnaces that, by the time you read this, will be up and running.
The second building that we are using on the Snows Mountain
property, which we are calling the Humanities building, is also in
good shape now after some final repairs while we’ve been away.
- The purchase of the property has greatly
improved our academic program. Last year English, Art, Social
Studies and Languages were taught in Town Square. We will continue
to have classes in Town Square but it will be limited to English and
Art. The classroom space there is great but bringing Social Studies
and Language back onto our property minimizes the travel time
between classes and maximizes the time in class. We had classes for
three days in Waterville Valley before traveling to Colorado and the
use of the “new” building worked very well. The addition of the
second academic building as well as the painting and repairs to both
buildings has enhanced our program this year by providing an
improved learning environment.
- The second group of Academy boarding students
will start to move into the dorm on Friday November 24th.
Day students are to report to Pickering Hall on Monday the 27th
at 8:30 AM when classes are scheduled to resume. We’ve had a great
start and I look forward to a very productive year.

- The New Hampshire weather may be starting us
off slowly, however, we will be finishing strongly. This season we
have more BBTS racers signed up at every age level than in the past.
We will be strong in talent and in numbers. We will also be strong
in coaching. We are happy and confident to be able to handle all
these young athletes. We pride ourselves in giving the attention
each individual needs. As in the past, our coaching staff is a blend
of experience and youth. The experienced coaches have the tricks to
teach great racing and the young coaches have the legs to be the
skiing models. I am presently observing this BBTS coaching
philosophy of athletes first.
- I am writing this newsletter from Copper Mt.,
Colorado at the WVA pre-season camp. Peter Stokloza, Anda Curuta,
and our new JI/II Head coach Shawn Goodwin have our J1’s and 2’s
skiing well and fast. It’s fun and it fills me with confidence to
see the effort and commitment these coaches are putting forth for
their athletes. The care, the team spirit, and the passion for
racing I see here will continue back at Waterville Valley starting
next Saturday.
- All the coaches are looking forward to meeting
new youngsters and seeing familiar faces as well as seeing how much
these returning athletes have grown.
See you next Saturday,
Tom Barbeau

- Despite the rainy weather back in New
Hampshire, the season has started off very well. We are out here at
Copper Mt, in Colorado, where the snow has offered great opportunity
for pre-season training. We are in our final few days of a long two
week training camp, and our athletes have shown a great deal of
motivation and potential for the up and coming season.
- The coaching staff this year is experienced,
youthful, and very energetic. Bill Enos will continue as Head coach,
Aaron Diamond will be returning as a full-time Freestyle coach, and
I will also be continuing as a full-time Freestyle coach. We have
three new weekend coaches-Race coach, Chris Cameron, GROMS coach,
Andre’ Beriau, and Freestyle/Boarder-X coach, Andrew Johnson, each
of whom will contribute greatly to the success of this program. We
are all very focused on helping your children, our athletes, reach
their goals this season, on and off the mountain.
- With our winter camps ready to go, courtesy of
our new Administrator, Jessica Luca, our National team schedule
established, and our outstanding coaching staff, we are looking
forward to having a fun-filled, and progressive winter. Wish and
hope for snow, and we will see you in a week’s time.
Take Care,
Sam Harding

- Welcome to the
2006-07 ski season. Our 1st meeting will be Saturday morning on
November 25 at 9 AM out in front of the BBTS Competition Center. As
you may suspect, we are uncertain as to the status of the snow
conditions. We are currently experiencing warm temps and wet skies.
Fortunately, we are not a team of fair weather freestyle skiers. I
anticipate that minimally we will have some snow to slide on, and a
few park features to entertain us. Our coaching staff (with so many
fresh faces and job titles) are as eager as the athletes, I’m sure.
- Those of you in
the Valley on Friday are welcome to come down to the Tramps at
Mountain Fare from 1:00-3:30. We will have the grind rails and the
tramp open. We'll warm up with a little soccer and exercise, and
then hit the equipment for training. This afternoon training session
is optional. Otherwise, you all have a little elbow room to spend
more time with your families without having to hurry back here for
Friday morning.
- Some of you will
start your training with us on Sunday due to family and travel. I
suggest all of us be here at Waterville for Sunday, November 26 for
our Freestyle Program orientation and planning session. The agenda
will include staff introductions, program and individual goals,
training and competition schedule review, including home events, and
Tramp Club information. Again welcome from all your coaches, and
prepare yourselves for a great season. Click here for more details

- We are looking forward to seeing you at the
Ski and Snowboard Ball this Saturday evening! Not only is this
event a wonderful way to celebrate the start of a new snowsports
season, but the proceeds of the auction and raffle will benefit our
athletes this season! Check out the complete auction and raffle
program at
http://www.wvbbts.org/SS_Program.pdf .
- The start of a new snowsports season is a very
exciting time for athletes and parents alike! It is also a time
when everyone needs to be well informed about the upcoming season.
One of the major goals of WVBBTS is to improve communications to you
in a variety of ways:
- e-mail distribution lists-We
populate these lists from your application-they work well unless
SPAM filters, full inboxes or a change in e-mail address gets in
the way. For changes in your e-mail contact me at
sschmidt@wvbbts.org .
- WVBBTS Web Site Forum-http://www.wvbbts.org/forum/index.php
-In case e-mail distributions do not get through to you we post
most e-mail distributions here too.
- WVBBTS Web Site-www.wvbbts.org.-Check
out the new “Important Information” button on the top right side
of the home page for quick links to competition, training,
academic and social event calendars.
- WVBBTS Welcome Packet-Mailed to
each club and academy member.
- Athletic Program Guides-
http://www.wvbbts.org/alpine_handbooks.html e-mail
sschmidt@wvbbts.org if you don’t know the user name and
password.
- I want to give a special thanks to our
volunteer webmaster a/k/a WVBBTS parent, Allan Hendrickson, for
creating and maintaining the web site, forum and e-mail distribution
lists. I also want to thank our graphic designer a/k/a WVBBTS
parent, Sally Grand, for providing WVBBTS with the look and feel of
the web site, stationary and other major publications like the Ski
and Snowboard Ball invitation and program that you will see
throughout the season.
